How do I choose an anilox volume for my job?
Start from the application. Fine process work typically runs 1.5–4 BCM, combination work 3–8 BCM, heavy solids 8–20 BCM, and white ink or flood coats 15–40 BCM. Substrate, ink system and press conditions then fine tune the choice within the band.
What happens if the anilox volume is too high or too low?
Too much volume floods the plate, which shows as dot gain, dirty print and wasted ink. Too little starves the plate, giving weak solids and poor opacity. The aim is the lowest volume that still reaches the required density.
Why is the anilox-to-plate ratio a range rather than one number?
Published guidance genuinely varies, from a 3 times floor up to 6 times in current manufacturer advice, because plate screening and job types differ. The 4–6 times range covers most work, and fine highlight screens may need more.
