At the North Pole, the production deadline is critical. There is no option to push delivery to December 26th. When you are printing millions of labels, wrapping papers, and “Nice List” certificates, the press room must function with precision.
Yet, even in this magical environment, the laws of physics still apply.
In our latest case study, we look at why Mr. Claus decided that relying on luck for his anilox inventory was a strategy best left to the Grinch.
The "Surprise" Nobody Wants
Christmas is a time for surprises. At home, this can be charming. In a high-speed flexo press room, however, a surprise is always a disaster.
It can mean press ink volumes do not match the design. It means festive reds looking pink, or fine designs missing in a waste of excess varnish.
From Guessing to Knowing
Mr. Claus realised that while believing makes the season magical, measuring makes the production predictable.
By introducing the AniCAM HD™ Plus, the workshop moved from festive optimism to data-driven certainty.
No more guessing
They know the exact capacity of every roll in the inventory.
Optimised Ink
High-pigment inks now deliver punchy colours without waste because the volume is matched perfectly to the job.
Sustainability
Less waste means a smaller carbon footprint (which is helpful, as the ice caps are right outside the window).
The Gift of Not Stopping the Press
Perhaps the most critical feature for the North Pole, and indeed any press room, is process continuity.
High-precision measurement sometimes comes with a significant caveat: the need for a vibration-proof table in a silent, secluded laboratory. But Mr. Claus does not have the luxury of a “silent” room. His factory vibrates with the rumble of machinery and the passing of heavy sleighs.
For the elves, hauling a heavy roll off the press and transporting it to a quiet zone for analysis is simply impractical. They need a tool that works where they work.
This is where the AniCAM’s design proves essential.
Vibration Immunity
By resting directly on the cylinder, the AniCAM shares its motion, eliminating relative vibration and preserving the clarity of the 3D scan
Real Data
Interferometers often lose signal on steep cell walls and have to mathematically guess (interpolate) the shape. The AniCAM uses multi-angle lighting to see the wall texture, ensuring the data is real, not calculated.
Measure On-Press
The elves do not have to stop the production line and haul a heavy roll to a lab just to check its condition. They measure right there, on the rack or during a splice.
“When you have a deadline of midnight on the 24th, you do not stop the press unless you absolutely have to!”
Mr. Claus
Conclusion
We all enjoy a silent night, but only because the job is finished, not because the machine is down for a re-make.
The season teaches us that it is better to give than to receive. In our industry, this is especially true! It is far better to give your client a perfect print run than to receive a pallet of rejected stock because you relied on hope rather than data.
